American Kidney Fund's - Kidney Kitchen
About Kidney Kitchen
One of the most successful non-profits in the country, the American Kidney Fund created Kidney Kitchen to be a website dedicated to helping people with kidney disease navigate healthy eating. Kidney Kitchen focuses on what you can eat and drink, rather than what you cannot, because you should be empowered to make positive food and fluid choices without feeling burdened or discouraged.
The Kidney Kitchen partners with organizations like the USDA and National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI) to provide content and valuable resources to individuals in varying stages of kidney disease.

Responsive Website Design
The American Kidney Fund’s Kidney Kitchen (AKF) was looking for a fully responsive and accessible website design that looked great on all devices. Talent’s implemented a modern design and built it out in a CMS that would allow for easy future content changes.
Data was used to drive the initial UX design. Data is also used to adjust the design and layout of elements as time goes on if it’s needed.

Ask a Dietician Functionality

The Goal
The American Kidney Fund wanted their website users to be able to ask Licensed Dietitians questions, get a quick answer, be charged no money, and to have those questions and answers displayed on the website for all the other users to see.
The Solution
Talents came up with a custom solution that allowed users to ask a question on the frontend of the website. After a question is submitted it’s automatically forwarded to a Dietitian who then answers the question. Once the question is answered an email is sent to the user that asked the question notifying them that their question was answered. The question and answer are then automatically published to the website for all users to see.
Custom Dietician Dashboard
The Goal
The American Kidney Fund needed a custom dashboard (Kidney Kitchen Pro) that allowed Dietitians from around the country to create meal plans and resource toolkits for their patients.
The Solution
Talents created a one of a kind dashboard that allows Dietitians to create meal plans that calculate all nutritional data for each patient and point them to recipes with step by step instructions. Dietitians can also create personalized toolkits for each of their patients. Each toolkit contains various resources, videos, and documents that are of great value to that specific patient.
Both the toolkits and the meal plans when created dynamically generate a custom URL that can be shared with the patient for easy viewing and reference.

Searchable Recipe Database

The Goal
The American Kidney Fund wanted a database where they could store kidney friendly recipes. The database needed to be searchable based on many criteria so that users could quickly and easily find a recipe that suited their needs.
The Solution
Talents created a database and a user interface that allowed AKF to quickly add their recipes. We then designed the database and search facets to run deep and wide so that users could query recipes based on ingredients, meal type, nutrients, difficulty level, etc.
